FLYERS’ OFFSEASON GETS AN A- IN ESPN METRO DIVISION RATINGS

Since his hiring, Ron Hextall has deftly been working his way out of the salary cap purgatory in which the Flyers were stuck. It was a stroke of genius to deal Nicklas Grossmann and the Chris Pronger contract to the Coyotes, getting Sam Gagner in return. It’s a move that will save the Flyers millions in cap space.

Hextall had a strong draft, picking up Ivan Provorov and Travis Konecny to add to the young talent Hextall is starting to collect. The two-year deal for Michael Del Zotto at $3.88 million was OK if you like Del Zotto.
