FLYERS MINI-SHAKE-UP: GOSTISBEHERE CALLED UP, STREIT TO IR

By Mary Cunningham

Feeling the heat for a first 15 games of 2015-16 that have been awful, the Flyers today executed a shake-up — or sorts.

They recalled defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere and forward Taylor Leier from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

And they placed R.J. Umberger (foot) and Mark Streit, who has never been described as injured, on injured reserve.

Gostisbehere’s skating ability would seem to be a much-needed addition. The Flyers are averaging just 1.81 goals a game, second fewest in the NHL.

Gostisbehere, 22, is fifth on the Phantoms in scoring with 10 points (two goals). His point totals are tied for third among all AHL defensemen. He has not played with the Flyers since October of last season.
