FLYERS FINALLY HAVE A REAL BUSINESSMAN IN CHARGE, DAN HILFERTY!

By Jenny Masters

Another shoe dropped off the deck of the Good Ship Lollypop, otherwise known as the Flyers.

It was announced that Dave Scott is retiring as chairman of Comcast Spectacor after 10 years in the role and 30 years with Comcast, and from his position as governor of the Flyers, to be replaced by former Independence Blue Cross CEO Dan Hilferty, who was named CEO of Comcast Spectacor last month.

Scott’s decision to retire comes at a down time in the Flyers’ history, with the team struggling on the ice and at the box office. The team is in seventh place in the National Hockey League’s eight-team Metropolitan Division and will not make the playoffs. The Flyers are 18th out of 32 teams in the NHL in attendance, averaging 17,465 fans per game.

Earlier this month, the team fired Chuck Fletcher as its general manager and president of hockey operations. Fletcher was named GM of the Flyers in 2018. Former Flyers star Danny Briere is serving as interim general manager.
