FLYERS FACING OLD FRIEND MIKE RICHARDS TONIGHT IN WASHINGTON

By Jack Ryan

The Flyers are in Washington tonight for their last game before the All-Star game break, and they will be facing an old friend.

Mike Richards may be wearing the Caps’ red now, but he spent six seasons of his NHL career playing for Wednesday’s opponent, the Flyers.

Richards was drafted 24th overall in the 2003 draft by the Flyers and even served as team captain from 2008 to 2011 until he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings.

Will any of that be on his mind for Wednesday’s game? Not according to him.

“It was a long time ago,” Richards said. “Four, five years ago now. There might be one player left on the team that I played with so it really doesn’t make much of a difference to me anymore really. … It’s really no different than playing against any other team other than I wore that jersey before.”
