FLYERS ELIMINATED FROM PLAYOFFS AS BRUINS WIN IN OT

By Jack Ryan

What has been effectively true for some time became official last night:

The Flyers will not make the playoffs in 2014-15.

The end came Sunday night when Boston pulled out a 2-1 overtime victory in Carolina, leaving the Bruins, Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers in the hunt for the Eastern Conference’s last playoff spot.

The Flyers, who are 30-29-17 with 77 points in 76 games, basically have been playing out the string for a couple of weeks. Now, beginning Wednesday night in Pittsburgh, they officially have six meaningless games to go, although right wing Jakub Voracek (photo above) overtaking the Penguins’ Sidney Crosby for the scoring title is a good reason to pay attention.
