So, the Flyers open training camp today in Voorhees, hoping to turn the page on last year’s dumpster fire of a season in which they missed playoffs, which is hard to do in the NHL.
There has been a mini-shake-up, with GM Chuck Fletcher trading for some new faces.
The question is whether or not the new can translate into good.
We have our doubts.
And so does The Athletic’s Chuck O’Connor:
Now, yet again, the Flyers enter a season trying to prove that the previous one was a fluke, or at least that the issues that led to it have been resolved.
History implies that the team will indeed bounce back — after all, it hasn’t missed the playoffs in consecutive years once during its decade of relative mediocrity.
But it will take more than a quick first-round exit to satisfy anyone that the Flyers are indeed closer to the team that they appeared to be in the wake of 2019-20 than the club they ended up being in 2020-21.
