The Flyers’ youngsters are floating their boat!
Adding 19-year-old rookies Travis Konecny (above) and Ivan Provorov, plus 24-year-old Russian forward Roman Lyubimov has helped in the early going of 2016-17. In addition, 26-year-old defenseman Brandon Manning has won himself a regular job.
Sunday afternoon/evening’s 4-3 win at Carolina was particularly impressive.
“We got good efforts in all areas of our game,” coach Dave Hakstol said. “You have to have that, especially on a night where it’s a back to back night and a 5:00 start. So you have to have contributions from all parts of your lineup and all areas of your game, and that’s what we got.”
Michael Del Zotto, Scott Laughton and Michael Raffl will possibly return from injury leave later this week, and Hakstol will have even more flexibility to rest players.
He’s been platooning Nick Cousins, Boyd Gordon and Lyubimov up front and Nick Schultz/Andrew MacDonald on the back end.
It’s a nice position to be in, especially because the Flyers’ play 19 back-to-backs this season.
The Flyers are right back into the back-to-back stuff this week as they host Detroit on Wednesday and play the Islanders in Brooklyn a night later.
