FLYERS 89 RED WINGS 87 IN RACE FOR LAST WILD CARD SPOT!

By Sam Bush

What’s the state of the Flyers’ push toward the playoffs?

With last night’s shootout win over the Caps, the Flyers move two points up on the Detroit Red Wings, who were idle, for the East’s final wild-card spot with 89 points. Since they won in a shootout, however, Detroit still has one more regulation/overtime win (ROW).

What does that mean? If the Flyers and Detroit finish tied in points, the Wings get in because they have more ROW than the Flyers. But for now, that doesn’t matter.

“It was a big two points for us that we needed to get,” Jake Voracek (above) said. “Playoffs, it’s getting closer but we’re not there yet. We got to be focused on the regular season still.

“It’s huge. We could have come up with one point the last two games. We came up with four. This time of the year, it’s huge. We’re getting closer but we have to keep going.”
