EX-PHIL ADAM MORGAN HANGS ON WITH CUBS MINOR LEAGUE DEAL

By Sam Bush

Ex-Phillies reliever Adam Morgan has signed a minor-league contract with the Chicago Cubs, which includes an invitation to big-league spring training camp.

Morgan, who will turn 31 in February, became a free agent after clearing waivers in October. Earlier that month, he had surgery to repair a flexor pronator injury in the area of his left elbow.

Morgan had been a member of the Phillies organization since 2011 when he was selected in the third round of that year’s draft out of the University of Alabama. Originally a starter, he survived a serious shoulder injury that required surgery and made it to the majors as a starter in 2015.

In 2017, Morgan became a full-time reliever. Both his fastball velocity and his slider improved after the move and from 2017-2019, he pitched in 144 games for the Phils and recorded a 3.97 ERA.
