EX-EAGLE SHADY MCCOY ‘SUCKER-PUNCHED COPS,’ FOP CHIEF SAYS

By Peter Gleason

Well, now we know what the Fraternal Order of Police thinks of the Shady McCoy brawl!

“I’ve never waited this long, ever, to see somebody arrested,” John McNesby, president of Philly’s Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, said on WIP Friday morning. “So, it doesn’t pass the smell test. Something’s funny going on.

“It was an all-out beat down. It was a sucker punch to the one officer by LeSean McCoy over a bottle of champagne, and it was an all-out beat down.

“This wasn’t just an assault, this was an aggravated assault,” McNesby said, noting the officers suffered broken eye sockets, a fractured skull and other injuries. “So this just wasn’t a pushing and shoving match where you’re separated and off you go. This was serious.”

McNesby’s comments suggest a divide in how the case is being handled. Last week, police said they were seeking arrest warrants for the Feb. 7 bar fight allegedly involving McCoy and three other men, and three off-duty officers. A spokesperson for the District Attorney’s Office said prosecutors are continuing to investigate the case

“I think they’re overlooking it. I think they’re investigating too much. They need to just move on with it. If [District Attorney Seth Williams] does not charge the group of individuals that were there that night, that’s an absolute disrespect to Philadelphia police officers.”
