The Eagles saw enough out of rookie kicker Cody Parkey to reportedly give him a spot on the 53-man roster.
Cutdown time is 4 p. m. today, but two anonymous sources have told FASTPHILLYSPORTS.com that Parkey would take the place of Alex Henery.
Parkey, who was picked up in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts last week, knocked in two kicks from 50-plus yards in the Eagles’ preseason finale against the New York Jets on Thursday night.
Parkey winning the job means the end is near for kicker Alex Henery, who was a fourth-round draft pick back in 2011.
Going with Parkey into the first week of the season is the ultimate high risk, high reward decision. By knocking in two kicks with his job on the line Thursday night, Parkey showed he has the mental toughness to compete.
As an undrafted rookie, however, Parkey could be taking some potentially big kicks with playoff implications in his first season in the NFL.
