Eagles middle linebacker Jordan Hicks showed no ill effects of the torn quad he suffered last season when he returned to mini-camp drills yesterday.

Despite not getting any work in during full team drills during the voluntary practices this spring, the second-year linebacker says he isn’t concerned about the minor injury that has been nagging him this offseason.

“I’m just a little limited this week,” Hicks said prior to Tuesday’s practice. “I’m just coming back off a little quad spasm. It’s nothing serious.

“It’s a matter of that line where you push or where you don’t push. Obviously the main goal is to win games out here and we’re not playing games right now. We’re trying to find that line. We’re trying to find … Obviously I want to be out there as much as anybody does. But, we’re being smart about it and that’s all we can do.”

Hicks was sidelined for eight games last after tearing his pectoral had a strong return to practice yesterday by knocking down two passes and appearing right at home calling out the signals in Jim Schwartz’s defense.

“You have to set the front and make the checks in any scheme,” Hicks said. “At the end of the day, a lot of it is the same. I’ll have to continue to follow the ball and control my gap. This defense will require me to play downhill a little bit more. It is a more downhill defense. I’ve been at this before in a one-gap defense and was able to spike my gap.”

Hicks posted 50 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble as a rookie while at times looking like one of the most dominant players on the Eagles’ defense.

In addition to playing a new scheme, Hicks says that he’s anxious to play underneath Schwartz because of his fiery personality and what that draws out of players.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Hicks said. “He brings a lot of energy. He’s fiery. We feed off him, he feeds off us, when you have that type of energy from a coaching staff and it comes down to the players it can be pretty special.”
