EAGLES JAY AJAYI AND DARREN SPROLES IFFY FOR COLTS GAME!

By Lewis Gould

The Eagles are heading into a Week 3 game on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, but they’ll be short of a couple of their backs.

Coach Doug Pederson said yesterday that Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles are considered day-to-day with their injuires may keep them out of Sunday’s game.

Ajayi had suffered a back injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first half that forced him to miss the rest of the game. Since then, the Eagles have stayed on the path that the team could likely be without him in Week 3.

He has been largely effective in his limited playing time with 85 rushing yards on 22 carries and a touchdown. Ajayi has operated as the lead back after the departure of LeGarrette Blount in free agency.

Sproles is dealing with a hamstring injury that should keep him out of action a bit longer than Ajayi given the type of ailment that he’s dealing with.

Although he has taken up more of a secondary role in the backfield, he has proven to be a valuable asset behind his ability to be an effective asset in the passing game and his speed. The Eagles will likely ease him back into the mix, but the fact that he’s practicing in any capacity is a telling sign that the injury isn’t significant enough to keep him out of the fold for a lengthy period of time.

Second-year running back Corey Clement will take on the primary back duties as he had shown flashes of promise against the Buccaneers with 30 rushing yards on six carries including a 15-yard touchdown along with five catches for 55 receiving yards. Wendell Smallwood should also factor into the equation.
