EAGLES HIRING OF DAY SHOWS ADDAZIO HOW IT FEELS TO BE LEFT IN THE LURCH

By Mary Cunningham

Now Steve Addazio knows how it feels to be left in the lurch.

Boston College coach Addazio is in the market for a new offensive coordinator after losing Ryan Day to the Eagles.

Addazio left his position as Temple head coach in December 2012 after assuring then athletic director Bill Bradshaw and other Owls officials that he would stay on North Broad Street for the long haul.

Addazio also shocked the Owls faithful and left at least one recruit confused and angry by accepting the head coaching position at Boston College after just two seasons on Broad Street.

The Birds announced Thursday that Day, Addazio’s offensive coordiantor since 2012, will be the quarterbacks coach for Chip Kelly’s staff. The Eagles had an open spot to fill after Bill Musgrave left to take a job with the Oakland Raiders.

Day and Addazio have constructed an offense at BC that has helped Andre Williams break out as a Heisman finalist in 2013 and lead the Eagles to back-to-back bowl appearances. Boston College only trailed Georgia Tech in the ACC rushing rankings in 2014 thanks to the senior-freshman combo of quarterback Tyler Murphy (1,179 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns) and running back Jon Hilliman (860 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns).

Day also worked as an offensive coordinator under Addazio for one season at Temple before making the move to Boston College.
