With the Eagles’ Monday Night Football 34-24 victory over division rival Washington, the Birds solidified their NFC East first place status, also the top seed in the conference at 6-1 through week 7!
Second year QB Carson Wentz’s legend continues to grow with another sparkling performance. The NFL’s web site taking it even further, succinctly stating this week, “with back-to-back scintillating performances on national TV, Wentz has arrived as leading candidate for MVP!” Wow! They are currently ranked No. 1 in the new power rankings for the first time since 2004!
Wentz threw four more touchdown passes raising his 2017 NFL best total to 17, and he went 17-25 for 268 yards with a QB rating of 126.3 — unbelievable production for a player in just his 23rd game as a pro.
Tackle Jason Peters went down with a torn ACL and MCL tear in the third quarter, LB Jordan Hicks ruptured his Achilles tendon on the second play of the game. These are very bad losses of significant contributors this season, but for some reason the 2017 edition of the Eagles looks more capable of weathering this injury storm and continue with the old mantra,” next man up.”
With the trading deadline quickly approaching, they could make a move to bring in some help for the stretch run, or stay in house with second year LB Joe Walker replacing Hicks, and “Big V” taking Peters spot at RT.
Nobody will feel sorry for the hot 6-1 Eagles who will take on the winless San Francisco 49ers this Sunday at LFF, October 29th, 1pm/Fox
