The lame-ass local media — especially Reuben Frank — would have you believe that the Eagles can’t possibly trade quarterback Carson Wentz:
The cap hit would be fatal!
He’ll regain his 2017 form (all evidence to the contrary)!
The new coaches are almost as young as he is and they’ll figure it out.
Well, we prefer to listen to someone who knows what he’s talking about.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network believes the Birds can trade Wentz:
“Carson Wentz is very tradable ,” Rapoport said yesterdayon the 94WIP Morning Show.
“Whether they want to or whether they want to fix him and try to make good on their investment, that’s a different story. Someone is going to look at Carson Wentz and say, up until the first half of the Washington game, this was a good quarterback.
“Something happened and it was all bad and he played terrible. But before then, basically up until half time, everything was fine and someone is going to say, ‘I can recapture that.’”
Wentz was an MVP candidate in 2017 prior to a late-season injury. He threw for over 4,000 yards and led an injury-riddled Eagles team to the playoffs in 2019, despite a shortage at the skill positions.
Philly appears willing to lean on those past successes. The Eagles hired former Indianapolis Colts head coach Nick Sirianni as their new head coach. Sirianni is from the Frank Reich coaching tree, and Wentz’s 2017 season came under Reich’s tutelage. The Eagles also hired Florida offensive coordinator Brian Johnson as their new quarterbacks coach.
It would seem the Eagles will see how Wentz responds to wholesale changes to the coaching staff. However, Rapoport believes they could move him if they so choose.
