Today is the first opportunity the Eagles have to “franchise” quarterback Sam Bradford, and for all the talk of letting him walk to free agency, let’s get serious:
If owner Jeff Lurie and his glove puppet Howie Boy Roseman don’t do what it takes to ensure that Bradford is under center in September, Eagles fans will know that several years of losing awaits.
Because that’s what is in store for the team if Mark Sanchez or someone like Chase Daniel is brought in as QB. Not to mention a rookie, since rookie QBs have a learning curve as steep as any in sports.
Remember what center Jason Kelce said on Jan. 2, as quoted by the Inky’s Mike Sielski:
“Obviously, he’s a free agent this year, and we lost a really good free agent last year in Jeremy Maclin. We’ll see what happens this year, but if we can retain Sam Bradford, that is the most important position on the field – on offense, defense, special teams, anything. If we can retain a guy like that, that would be huge for our ball club, regardless of who the head coach is.”
