The Eagles are 3-5-1 and, somehow, still sit atop the NFC East, with about a 60 percent chance of making the playoffs.
The reason? The division is so weak that all four teams have losing records, which means that the Eagles’ only realistic hope for a playoff berth is to win the division.
Their final two games of the season, each a divisional battle, will be crucial. If they can win both, they will be in a strong position. Even if they lose their next five games but win the last two, finishing with a 5-10-1 record, their playoff chances are about one in three, much better than they deserve to be.
Every week, Eagles fans have a simple goal: Win and hope the Giants, Dallas and Washington lose.
