EAGLES’ AGHOLOR WON’T BE CHARGED, HIS LAWYER MAINTAINS

By Lewis Gould

“Nelson has not engaged in any criminal conduct,” lawyer Fortunato “Fred” Perri Jr. said. “We’re confident that he will not be charged with a crime.”

A female dancer at a strip club has claimed that Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor raped her on Thursday afternoon. The allegation reportedly arose from a dispute over the amount of money Agholor agreed to pay for private time with the dancer.

Defensive end Connor Barwin and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox reportedly visited the club with Agholor. Barwin issued a statement on Friday claiming that he was only present for a “very short period of time” and has “no knowledge” about anything that occurred after he left.

Even if Agholor isn’t charged, it’s an embarrassing situation for the player, and it could possibly result in a league investigation regarding whether the Personal Conduct Policy was violated. The revised policy allows the league to take action regardless of whether charges are filed. Also, the NFL is bound by a much lesser standard of proof than the very high bar of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
