Memo to Eagles junkies:
Don’t expect to see a lot of tight end Zach Ertz (above) and linebacker Marcus Smith Monday night in the season opener in Atlanta.
As a matter of fact, you’ll have to concentrate to see them at all.
“Zach and Marcus were really limited,” Kelly said before Thursday’s practice, which was moved inside the practice facility because of the rain. “We know we’re getting them back, but we’re not going to throw them in full. We still have a few more days of training so we’ll see how it plays itself out.”
Ertz has been out since early August with a groin area injury that required surgery. He was cleared by the doctors to practice this week and told reporters after Wednesday’s practice hat he was hopeful he could play Monday night against the Falcons. He did not play in any preseason games this summer.
Smith suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s practice with the Baltimore Ravens in mid-August and missed the final three preseason games. He also returned to practice for the first time, Wednesday.
“Both of those guys, they went through individual (drills) with the coaches,” Kelly said. “We’ll just see how it goes the rest of the week. They’ll be limited again (Thursday).”
