Asks Charlie O’Connor of The Athletic:
The bad news was that his four-year run with the Flyers had marked him with the dreaded “inconsistent” tag.
The good news was that 2019-20 looked primed to be the reward for suffering through a low year: a standout season that would remind all just how dangerous of a player he could be.
In short, that didn’t happen.
Gostisbehere delivered the furthest thing from a bounce-back; he had what can only be described as his worst season yet. He dealt with injury. He barely scored (12 points in 42 games). He ultimately functioned as a spare part for the Flyers in the playoffs with the season on the line.
As a result, it’s little surprise that Gostisbehere’s name consistently popped up in trade rumors in September and October.
