The Rangers signed RHP Jacob deGrom to a five-year, $185 million contract.
Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that deGrom’s contract contains a sixth-year option, that would push the total value to $222 million, and also contains a full no-trade clause.
The Rangers are taking on a Texas-sized gamble by signing the 34-year-old generational talent, who has been limited to just 26 starts the last two years due to injury, but he should benefit from heading to pitcher-friendly Globe Life Field and working with elite pitch-framing backstop Jonah Heim.
He’ll join Jon Gray, Martin Pérez and Jake Odorizzi in the Rangers’ starting rotation.
