COX MISSING EAGLES MINICAMP: LEVERAGE FOR A NEW CONTRACT?

By Lewis Gould

The Eagles’ contract dance with their best defensive player is officially getting interesting.

Fletcher Cox is not expected to attend the Eagles’ pre-draft minicamp starting Tuesday at NovaCare..

Cox already missed the Eagles’ first two weeks of voluntary workouts, and is now likely to skip minicamp as he continues to angle for a new contract.

Although the Eagles picked up his fifth-year option for $7.8 million last year, his play will likely earn him an extension worth eight figures, so he’ll likely remain away from the team while his representatives handle negotiations.

One of the league’s premier defensive linemen who is just 25 years old, Cox totaled a career-best 71 tackles and 9.5 sacks while forcing three fumbles as well last season.
