It’s been nearly five months since veteran inside linebacker DeMeco Ryans tore his Achilles for the second time in his career.

“I’ve been jogging on the field. The program is right on schedule, there have been no setbacks at all,” Ryans told NJ.com’s Mark Eckel.

His rehab has been smoother this time around than it was four years ago because the players were locked out before the 2011 season. That meant he could not enter the club’s facility or use the team’s trainers, and obviously those restrictions made it that much more difficult to recover from a serious injury.

The 30-year-old Ryans will now be one of the older guys in the locker room after Chip Kelly chopped Trent Cole, Todd Herremans and Cary Williams. There has been some speculation that Ryans could be cut because of his age $6.9 million cap hit in 2015, but he appears safe for now.
