One of the most hotly contested battles throughout Eagles training camp has been rookie wide receiver and first-round pick Nelson Agholor (above) against veteran cornerback Byron Maxwell.
Some days, Maxwell, the Eagles’ high-priced free agent, makes plays that make it easy to see why he merits the $63 million contract he signed in the offseason.
Others days, it’s Agholor who turns heads by blowing past Maxwell on the way to a big catch that draws cheers from the crowd.
“He could beat me,” Maxwell said of Agholor following Wednesday’s practice at the NovaCare complex. “I won’t let it happen. But he has the talent to beat me. He can take the top off a defense.
“You can see a difference even from last week. He’s even starting to make a play on the ball on comebacks, little stuff like that that makes you great. You can tell that he’s looking at tape and trying to get better.”
