CAN THIS GUY SAVE JAMES FRANKLIN’S JOB AT PENN STATE?

By Julie Glass

Of all the big questions Penn State will start to answer this Saturday when the Nits play Kent State, none is bigger than:

WHAT WILL JOE MOORHEAD’S OFFENSE LOOK LIKE AND HOW MUCH OF IT WILL WE SEE?

Moorhead, the former Fordham coach, has replaced John Donovan as James Franklin’s offensive coordinator.

He’s installed an up-tempo spread that will feature redshirt sophomore quarterback Trace McSorley as the trigger man. Penn State fans have never seen anything quite like this and the schemes are designed to stretch a defense and eventually tire it out.

Crowd scrimmage against 1,000-yard back Saquon Barkley and the ball will be thrown to 1,100-yard wideout Chris Godwin.

Double up on Godwin and Barkley will run it against a less-crowded box. But Penn State visits Pittsburgh next week and if the Lions jump on Kent State early, why show all of the new looks and wrinkles Saturday?

Save some of it for the Panthers, right?
