BULLPEN STILL PHILS BIG ’21 QUESTION: WILL IT SUCK AS BAD AS ’20?

By Sam Bush

Pitchers and catchers are due at Clearwater tomorrow for Phillies spring training, and here’s a snapshot of the offseason:

Owner John Middleton demoted general manager Matt Klentak in October.

There were rumors about cutting payroll.

Then Middleton hired Dave Dombrowski to run the baseball operations department, and Dombrowski effectively put the band from 2020 back together.

J.T. Realmuto signed the richest contract ever for a free-agent catcher.

Didi Gregorius returned on a two-year deal.

After a solid year in Japan, Matt Moore will replace Jake Arrieta in the rotation.

The Phils hope the bullpen will not be as wretched as it was in 2020.

The additions of Archie Bradley, José Alvarado and Brandon Kintzler should help.
