Jorge Soler led off the game with a home run, Adam Duvall hit a two-run blast in the third inning to chase Astros starter Framber Valdez and the Braves overcame Charlie Morton’s injury-shortened outing to win Game 1 of the World Series, 6-2.
Four Atlanta relievers combined to limit the Astros, who had scored 18 runs in their previous two games, to two runs after Morton exited in the third inning with a fractured right fibula. The veteran right-hander suffered the injury when he was struck by Yuli Gurriel’s comebacker the inning before, but retired the next three hitters he faced, including two via strikeout. Morton will miss the remainder of the World Series.
Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is Wednesday night in Houston.
