Says Jim Bowden of the Athletic:
Phillies: Buck Showalter and Dusty Baker (above)
The Phillies would benefit from a detail-oriented manager who is really good at bullpen usage and can prepare early in games for every scenario that might arise later so that his relievers are always prepared, both physically and mentally. Showalter fits this bill. His strong relationship with both president Andy MacPhail and GM Matt Klentak is the key. And, the fact he and MacPhail succeeded in Baltimore should not be ignored. With owner John Middleton heavily involved in all baseball decisions, it’s important that the next manager fits in well and has the backing of the important trio of owner, president and GM.
While Showalter is the only proven candidate that we at least know will work well with MacPhail and Klentak, Dusty Baker is also worth mentioning as a potential fit, with plenty of experience and a track record of connecting with his players.
