Former NBA commish David Stern told Ted Beitchman in an interview for fastphillysports.com that he never knew what Charles Barkley would say on TNT because Barkley never knew what he would say.
And during an appearance this week on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Barkley did it again.
Barkley wasn’t impressed with the Sixers — especially their rep as cheapskates — when he visited the team before the 1984 draft, and also because of their advice to get down to 285 pounds from 292.
Barkley claims he gained 20 pounds in 48 hours by chowing down on two Grand Slam breakfasts from Denny’s totaling 1,660 calories, grabbing lunch at Red Lobster gobbling down every hush puppy in sight, and feasting on two T-bone steaks for dinner.
After repeating the same menu the next day, Barkley bulked up his 6-4 3/4 frame to 302 prior to flying back to Philly for his final pre-draft weigh in.
Of course the Sixers went on to draft Barkley and he played eight years with the team before being traded to the Phoenix Suns.
