Over the the last two weeks there has been a call for Phillies manager Joe Girardi’s neck for the awful play of the Phils this season.
Two months ago the Phils were advertised as playoff-worthy after the signings of Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos, and it all seemed real.
But their 22-29 record after 51 games tells a different story.
Owner John Middleton has a decision to make.
He can’t fire the whole team, but can fire the manager who has enraged the fans to no end.
But will anything change?
If Middleton does ax Girardi, who will replace him?
Bench coach Rob Thomson, third base coach Dusty Wathan, first base coach Paco Figeroa, hitting coach Kevin Long,?
It could happen if things keep going south.
Making Girardi a sacrificial lamb most likely won’t produce more wins, but something has to give with this underachieving team.
