After 331 preseason, regular-season and playoff games, the NFL will crown a champ tonight in Miami with the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs playing Super Bowl 54.

The Chiefs opened as slight favorites at sportsbooks.

Immediately after the 49ers’ victory over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game, Bovada opened the Chiefs as 1.5-point favorites with a total of 52.5. The book opened the Chiefs as -120 moneyline faves, with the Niners coming back as even-money underdogs to win outrighT

As of yesterday, the spread and moneyline have held firm but the book has moved the OVER/UNDER to 54.5 as bettors hammered the OVER in anticipation of a high-scoring affair in the Sunshine State.

Super Bowl 54 Odds
Team Moneyline Odds Spread Total
Kansas City Chiefs -120 -1.5 OVER 54.5
San Francisco 49ers EVEN +1.5 UNDER 54.5

The Chiefs opened the season as Super Bowl favorites, but a midseason injury to Patrick Mahomes caused a shakeup on the oddsboard. Kansas City got back on track when Mahomes returned, earning the No. 2 seed in the AFC and a first-round bye followed by consecutive playoff comebacks over the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans to reach the Super Bowl for the first time since 1969. Elsewhere at the shop, Mahomes has been tabbed as the favorite to become Super Bowl MVP.

Entering the 2018 campaign, the 49ers were a trendy Super Bowl pick. But due to a season-ending injury to starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, the 49ers finished the year 4-12. San Francisco entered this season with +4000 odds to win Super Bowl 54 and steamrolled through the regular season en route to a 13-3 record and a first-round bye.

The 49ers easily got through the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional round before taking down the Packers and will be looking to win their first Super Bowl since the 1994 season. San Fran made an appearance in Super Bowl 47, falling short in a 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but the Niners’ current roster, coaching staff and front office is completely different from that team.

The last time these teams met was on September 23, 2018, when the Chiefs came away with a 38-27 triumph at Arrowhead Stadium. Mahomes finished that game with three touchdowns and 314 yards through the air, while Garoppolo had two touchdowns and 251 passing yards.
