AMARO TO HOWARD: PROVE YOU CAN DO YOUR JOB — WHAT ABOUT YOU, RUBE?

By Peter Gleason

The paragraph at the end of this post is a quote from Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., who is trying to say that overpaid, over the hill Phils’ first baseman Ryan Howard will have to earn his position in spring training.

Excuse me, but didn’t we get a look last season at what Howard can do in the field — nothing! — and why doesn’t Amaro figure out how to do his job and trade Howard, who is owed $60 million because Amaro extended his contract in 2010?

Read the quote from the Daily News:

“I think that if Ryan’s with us, and he’s likely to be with us in spring training, I think Ryan’s got to prove to us that he’s ready to play every day at first base for us. I mean I’m kind of looking forward to him being ready and healthy and contributing. Right now, there’s nobody really that can unseat him.”
