2 BIG REASONS JAMES HARDEN’S NOT COMING TO PHILLY: ROCKETS WON’T TRADE HIM AND PHILLY DOESN’T WANT HIM!

By Jackie Johnson

Okay, yesterday’s rumor (which we reported) was that the Rockets James Harden would okay a trade to the Sixers.

There are two big reasons this will not happen.

Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta is pissed that the Sixers hired his former GM Daryl Morey.

And the Sixers really don’t have anything to offer.

New Sixers coach Doc Rivers, who has been around the NBA for a while, addressed these latest rumors:

“You’re not hearing them from us. So as long as you’re not hearing them from us, you should be very comfortable,” Rivers told Sixers reporters, via ESPN.

“We like our team, man. I’ll tell you: that team I just watched out there is pretty special. And so those rumors, none are coming from us.”

Morey’s relationship with Fertitta and the Rockets organization is complicated. He grew in prominence and esteem over a number of years in Houston.

But things soured a bit last year. Fertitta blasted Morey after he spoke out in support of Chinese protestors in Hong Kong. There were internal rumblings Fertitta debated firing Morey.

Ultimately, Morey stayed on as GM and bought into the small-ball roster. The experiment failed, and Morey–along with former head coach Mike D’Antoni–left his position.

Morey had initially stated a desire to take on new challenges outside of basketball. Clearly, that was not the case.

Perhaps Fertitta feels a certain level of vindictiveness towards Morey, which could cloud any potential negotiations between the teams.

It might not matter anyway, as Morey has said he will not split up Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
