This is either the longest mating dance in modern pro sports or:
Chip Kelly must have nowhere else to go so he is hanging around the Jacksonville Jaguars’ headquarters!
The team has yet to announce who will call the plays under new coach Doug Marrone, and Kelly – the former Eagles and 49ers coach – was at Jaguars headquarters yesterday, according to a person who told USA TODAY.
Kelly’s visit to Jaguars headquarters was first reported by 1010XL in Jacksonville. ESPN reported over the weekend that Kelly quietly interviewed for the Jaguars’ head coaching job before the team decided to promote Marrone, who finished the season as interim coach.
Installing Kelly’s up-tempo scheme would be a bold move by the Jaguars, who have some talent on that side of the ball, starting with receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, and hope quarterback Blake Bortles can rebound from an uneven third season.
The 49ers fired Kelly, 53, on Jan. 1, hours after their season finale. They went 2-14 in his only season there after three seasons with the Eagles, who fired Kelly with a 6-9 record late in 2015.
