Seeking her first medal of the Olympic Games, Lindsey Vonn posted the third-best time in her downhill training run today, with the actual race set for Wednesday.
“I was trying to slow myself down,’’ Vonn said in an interview with NBC after covering the course in 1:40.10, behind Austria’s Stephanie Venier (1:39.75) and Italy’s Sofia Goggia (1:39.83). “I actually didn’t want to win the training run today. I like letting other people think that they’re faster.
“In skiing there are a few things you can do to play mind games so I use every opportunity.”
During an interview with other media outlets, Vonn said she might adjust her line after watching Goggia’s run.
“(Goggia) skied a little bit of a different line than I did in a couple of sections,’’ Vonn said, “so I’m going to look at that tonight and do some analyzing and see what’s actually faster.’’
