If I were with the Sixers, I’d also offer another suggestion that I would be scolded for: trade Embiid.
Yes, he’s put up incredible stats this season and is the front-runner for Rookie of the Year. One thing that can’t be ignored, though, is his very extensive injury history. Embiid suffered a stress fracture in his back in college, then a foot fracture (and setback) that cost him his first two NBA seasons and put him on a severe minutes limit, followed by a knee injury that has him out of the lineup currently.
So far, Embiid has played less than 800 minutes since being drafted in 2014. If the Sixers keep him, they are betting that his body can hold up under the stress of an NBA season.
