Temple (1-1) had a scare against Villanova last weekend.
It took a 49-yard field goal with about a minute to play from Aaron Boumerhi to seal a 16-13 victory a week after the Owls fell to Notre Dame, 49-16.
Still, the Owls pose a large threat to UMASS tonight at the Linc with redshirt sophomore quarterback Logan Marchi and redshirt junior wideout Ventell Bryant.
“I have a healthy respect for [UMass] and I know the players do too,” said first-year Temple coach Geoff Collins this week.
“Having played them in the past, what tough competitors they are. Really good football team, so I know the kids understand the challenge we have for them Friday night.”
Collins was the defensive coordinator at Florida when the Minutemen opened the season with a 24-7 loss in Gainesville last season.
The last time these two programs met was in 2015 at Gillette Stadium when the Owls topped the Minutemen, 25-23, on a field goal with 12 seconds remaining.
