Phillies pitchers and catchers are due in Clearwater on Wednesday, and the focus is on the starting pitching.

The Phillies probably won’t win this year and signing a player whose best season should come in a season not resulting in the playoffs doesn’t sound great for a team coming out of a rebuild.

However, they should take a look at one of the starting pitchers on the market and get involved.

Jake Arrieta (above), Lance Lynn or Alex Cobb would help this team now and in the future, and locking one up now might be their best chance at adding an impact arm.

The starting pitching market doesn’t look all that enticing next season.

Assuming Clayton Kershaw finds a way to stay with the Dodgers, the Phillies could wait on starting pitching this year and look to add one of Dallas Keuchel, Garrett Richards, Drew Pomeranz, Ervin Santana, Patrick Corbin, Matt Harvey or Gio Gonzalez, among other options.

If a starting pitcher is on the radar in the coming seasons, the Phillies best chance is getting one now.
