The Bryce Harper sweepstakes is starting to take shape.
Members of the Phillies’ front office along with owner John Middleton will meet with the free-agent outfielder and his agent, Scott Boras, on Saturday in Las Vegas, according to USA Today.
Boras met with general manager Matt Klentak during the winter meetings, but this will be the first face-to-face discussions between the two sides to include Harper, according to the report.
The Phillies will be the fourth team — in addition to the White Sox, Nationals and Dodgers — with which Harper has talked to directly this offseason. Still, the only known offer to Harper is from the Nationals. The Athletic reported earlier this month that it is much more than Washington’s initial $300 million offer put on the table in September.
The White Sox already have an offer out to Yankees free-agent target Manny Machado for about $200 million.
