He said during an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio that he only intends to sign with a Super Bowl contender.
“We’ve had interest from a number of teams all offseason,” Barwin said. “The offers I have, I think I’ll make my decision before camp starts. I’m not going to go somewhere that I don’t think can win a Super Bowl.”
The veteran has enjoyed a solid career up to this point as a former Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro. However, the only achievement he has his mind on is winning a Super Bowl. That said, he has essentially limited his field of interest to a select number of teams.
Barwin met with the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals this offseason. The former of which he played for last year and put up some solid numbers after finishing the 2017 campaign with 38 tackles, 5.0 sacks, and a fumble recovery in 14 games. His familiarity with defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and the team’s status as an elite contender next season make Los Angeles an ideal fit. However, it appears the team is rather comfortable with the slew of young linebackers they have on the roster.
As a result, it remains to be seen where Barwin will end up. The Cardinals are not projected to make any waves this year. Perhaps Barwin could look into joining a couple of his former teams in the Houston Texans and Eagles before training camp rolls around.
