New Jersey moved one step closer yesterday to legalizing sports betting when the State Legislature voted to legalize the activity. It is likely a matter of days now before cash can start changing hands at casinos in Atlantic City and Monmouth Park near the Jersey Shore and perhaps take advantage of the global interest in the World Cup, which begins next week, not to mention MLB and NFL futures. The last hurdle is the signature of Gov. Philip D. Murphy, who supports sports betting but has not said publicly when he would sign the bill into law.
