The NHL expansion draft that will stock the new Las Vegas team is a week away — June 21.
And it may seem weird that the Flyers will protect a goaltender who’s played 7 NHL games. But look back at their goaltending last year.
Steve Mason, the best goaltender for the Flyers the last few years, crashed with a .908 SV% and a 2.66 GAA. Michal Neuvirth, still under contract, was worse with a 2.82 and .891.
Meanwhile, Stolarz had a .928 and 2.07 in 4 starts. That’s the difference, plus the fact that Stolarz is just 23.
