Shayne Gostisbehere scored his second power-play goal of the game with 1:10 left in overtime to give the Flyers their sixth straight win, 2-1 over the Dallas Stars.
Flyers forward Jakub Voracek kept defenseman Dan Hamhuis’ clearing attempt in the Stars zone at the right point and passed across to Gostisbehere. The defenseman skated to the inside edge of the right face-off circle and used a Wayne Simmonds screen to beat goalie Ben Bishop.
“You could tell the other guys on the power play, a lot of that power play was going rover, but we’re feeding off each other, finding lanes,” Gostisbehere said. “We were relentless. That goal at the end showed we weren’t giving up there.”
Voracek had two assists and leads the NHL with 33, and Brian Elliott made 27 saves for the Flyers (14-11-7), who are on their longest winning streak since they won 10 in a row Nov. 27-Dec. 14, 2016.
Gemel Smith scored for the Stars (18-14-2), who were coming off a 5-2 loss at the New Jersey Devils on Friday. Bishop made 28 saves.
The victory ended the Flyers’ seven-game losing streak in games that went past regulation (0-5 in overtime; 0-2 in the shootout).
“Obviously, we haven’t been successful earlier in the season in overtime,” Flyers captain Claude Giroux said. “We’ve talked about the kind of system and how we want to play in overtime. [Elliott] did a good job on a couple of the shots they had, but overall we played pretty well.”
