Know this about Eagles’ outside linebacker Trent Cole:
He’s a gamer.
The issue was whether he will be a Saturday gamer.
That was settled Wednesday when he had surgery to put a plate in his broken left hand and will miss Saturday’s game against the Washington Redskins.
“Trent is getting surgery today to get a plate, I don’t know the exact details of it, put in the hand, so he’ll be out this week,” Eagles coach Chip Kelly said before Wednesday’s practice. “That’s all the information I have right now.”
Cole suffered a broken hand in Sunday night’s 38-27 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Tuesday he told reporters it “was up in the air” if he would be able to play, even though defensive coordinator Bill Davis had ruled him out earlier in the day.
With Cole out, Brandon Graham will make his first start of the season and his first start ever at outside linebacker. Graham, the team’s first-round pick in 2010, has not started since 2012 when he was a defensive end in the team’s 4-3 alignment.
