Playing in Philly is a great experience if you reflect this town’s blue collar roots.
There is no one who epitomized that attitude more than the Eagles Hall of Fame safety Brian Dawkins.
The pantheon of Philly sports figures is reserved for the special few who offer something that allows fans to think they embody something about the city itself.
Usually, that means someone who personifies toughness. Allen Iverson comes to mind. Joe Frazier. Bobby Clarke.
What made Dawkins special was that he did more than embrace and embody the attitude. When he crawled out of the tunnel or crumpled Alge Crumpler, he single-handedly raised the level of collective madness. No one whipped the city into a frenzy like Dawkins, and it’s hard to imagine anyone ever will.
