The Harrisburg Patriot-News’ David Jones:

What you cannot possibly blame on the sanctions is the clear regression of Christian Hackenberg (above, hugging coach James Franklin after a 2014 victory). After playing well against Boston College in the 31-30 win at the Pinstripe Bowl, the junior quarterback took another step back here. Sometimes, he held onto the ball too long. Sometimes he didn’t recognize schemes like a zone blitz from defensive end Sharif Finch dropping into coverage, a mistake that resulted in the game’s tipping-point play.

Under head coach and coordinator Bill O’Brien, both mutt Matt McGloin and thoroughbred Hackenberg took huge strides forward. Under Franklin and his coordinator John Donovan, Hackenberg has often as not has looked lost.
